bSafe Personal Safety App Honored as Rookie of the Year at 2013 Mobility Awards
Most Downloaded App in Europe Combines Text, Video and GPS-Tracking Capabilities.
PALO ALTO, CALIF. (January 15, 2013) – Mobile personal safety solution developer Bipper announced today that it has received the 2013 Rookie of the Year Mobility Award for its mobile personal safety app, bSafe. The competition sponsored by market research firm MobileTrax, LLC recognizes mobile and wireless products and services making the greatest impact on the industry.
Selected by 61 mobile and wireless industry analysts and press, Mobility Award winners were recognized during a ceremony at The Bellagio Hotel January 9 that was part of the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Judges fielded 597 products and services nominated in 72 categories to select the newest members of an elite circle that last year included Apple Siri, Amazon Kindle Fire, Apple iPhone 4S, Skype and Zynga.
The bSafe mobile personal safety app for Android, iPhone and Blackberry devices harnesses text, video and GPS-tracking capabilities in a compact security package that delivers protection for users walking alone or in locations that may be unsafe. A one-click activation of an SOS button sounds an alarm, transmits text messages requesting help to designated contacts and uploads a map and recorded video of the user’s location. In addition, users can enlist contacts to follow them in real time to a destination, broadcast arrival to contacts and make the phone ring at the opportune time to bolt from an uncomfortable situation.
One of the top three iPhone app downloads in Norway prior to its U.S. debut, the app has tallied more than 250,000 downloads. The app is the brainchild of Norwegian entrepreneur and mother Silje Vallestad who founded Bipper to provide custom mobile solutions focused on personal safety. The product’s rapid success prompted the company’s recent expansion to the U.S.
“We appreciate being recognized by the Mobility Awards for developing the bSafe app, the ultimate personal safety device,’’ Vallestad said. “Our company continues to bring to market innovative mobile solutions that increase users’ sense of safety and well-being while they are on the go.”

About Bipper:
Bipper was founded by Silje Vallestad, a mother of three, after her six-year-old daughter's friends began using cell phones and she was unable to find custom mobile solutions that covered her needs as a parent concerned about her children’s safety.
Bipper developed and launched MobileKids in Norway and Bulgaria in partnership with two operators in the fall of 2010 and brought the mobile application for smartphones to the international market in 2013. The company launched bSafe in 2011 prompted by requests from mothers who wanted access to the same SOS feature available on their children’s MobileKids app.
Headquartered in Norway with offices in Silicon Valley and Kiev, Bipper has received awards that include Red Herring Global, Rookie of the Year, Bully Award, Mobile Premier Award and SIMagine. In 2011, founder Silje Vallestad was named Norway’s Entrepreneur of the Year.
